An easy Instant Pot apple sauce recipe without sugar and without peeling the apples! Seriously the BEST homemade applesauce recipe, you'll never buy store-bought again.
6lbof applescored and chopped (about 12-14 large apples)
1cupapple juice or apple cider
Instructions
Wash and dry the apples, cut out the core, cut off any blemishes if you're using home grown apples, and cut the apples into large 1 ½-2" chunks. An easy way to do this is cut a large apple into 8 pieces and a medium sized apple into 4 pieces.
NOTE: Peeling the apple isn't necessary since the sauce gets pureed at the end. To make chunky apple sauce, you WILL need to cut off the peel and then after cooking, the apples will already be chunky and no puree is needed.
Pour 1 cup of apple juice or apple cider into the bottom of the Instant Pot.
Add the cubed apple pieces. Pressure cook on Manual High for 10 minutes. The pot will take 10-15 minutes to come to pressure. Do a natural release for 15 minutes before removing the lid.
Mash or puree the apples to the desired consistency using a potato masher, immersion blender, food processor, or high powdered blender. (skip this step if you peeled the apples and just give the applesauce a good stir for a chunky sauce.)
Serve warm or cold. Enjoy!
Makes 7-8 cups (almost 2 quarts)
Notes
To make cinnamon applesauce, add 1 teaspoon at a time after cooking until you reach the desired level of cinnamon you want to add, making sure to combine well after each teaspoon gets added.Any type of apple (except Red Delicious) should work in this recipe! Using a variety of apples works perfectly fine too. It's easy to cut the recipe in half by using 3 lbs of apples instead of 6, likewise, if you have an 8 qt pressure cooker and could cook up to 8 lbs of apples at a time. This recipe is the maximum a 6 qt pressure cooker can hold. Since you're pureeing the sauce because of the peel, this does not make a chunky apple sauce. To make it chunky, peel the apples beforehand and then there's no need to puree the sauce.
