Enjoy this quick and easy pepper steak stir fry, this one skillet dish can be on your table in less than 30 minutes. It's bursting with flavors from garlic, sesame oil, and a savory sauce. It's great for a quick weeknight meal the whole family will that and that is a Whole Lotta Yum!
1poundFlank or Sirloin tip steakthinly sliced (buy pre-sliced meat like sti rfry meat or shaved beef as a time saver!)
2cupsRed and green cabbagethinly sliced
1cupMatchstick carrots
1cupred or orange bell pepperthinly sliced
5clovesgarlicminced
2tablespoonsSesame oildivided
⅓cupSoy sauce
1cupBeef stock
2tablespoonsCorn starch
1tablespoonGround black pepper
½teaspoonSalt
⅓cupGreen onionsthinly sliced
Garnish: Toasted sesame seeds
Instructions
In a large skillet, heat half of the sesame oil on medium to high heat. Add the garlic and saute until it softens slightly about 2 minutes.
Add the steak and continue sauteing until the steak is browned. Remove the steak to a plate and set aside for now.
Add the cabbage, carrots, and bell pepper to the skillet. Fry for 2 minutes, stirring continuously.
In a small bowl, whisk together the beef stock and corn starch. Add the soy sauce, and beef stock mixture. Continue frying for 2 minutes, stirring continuously.
Add the black pepper and salt then stir well. Add the steak back into the pan and continue frying, stirring continuously until the stock thickens, about 4 minutes.
Remove from heat and stir in the green onions.
Top with sesame seeds and serve with rice or vermicelli noodles.
Notes
To make this recipe even easier, replace the cabbage with a store-bought bag of coleslaw mix.
Fast fry steaks are an inexpensive alternative and are available at most grocery stores.
